Our extended family of nine (ages 8-80ish) spent a wonderful long weekend at Michael’s place. It’s in a beautiful setting deep in the Wexford countryside with large gardens, perfect for tennis / football / relaxation. The size of the property meant there was plenty of room for everyone and kids and adults could easily congregate separately if they preferred. The young people in the group also loved having the older side of the house to themselves.
Peter was a terrific help when we had the occasional question and provided delicious home baked bread as well as some other grocery basics. He also provided great tips on local attractions. We would certainly recommend a visit to Huntington Castle which is very nearby.
All in all, this is a fabulous properly, perfect for a group get together / special occasion in a lovely countryside location and with a really helpful host. Highly recommended!

Even more beautiful than the pictures. Stunning house and surrounding hillside. Check in was very easy with a proactive and responsive host. Also worth noting how spotless the house was, which was impressive given the size of the property. The grass tennis court and croquet equipment was a cool novelty. Perfect for a weekend away for a group of couples and kids. Would love to come back.
This was ideal for an idyllic family retreat for something special. The house and garden were amazing. We had a huge storm during the stay and it was lovely to be inside beside a log fire with my grandchildren playing hide and seek, despite the howling wind. The area was fantastic Huntington Castle visit was brilliant and we were encouraged to drive 50 min to Avondale treetop walk. This is categorically the best thing we have done with our grandchildren. We had a brilliant time and the house contributed so much. It was beautiful, well equipped, warm and comfortable. (Peter the manager was brilliant as well).
Beautiful home and perfect peaceful location for our extended family. We enjoyed the house and wish we could have stayed longer. We arrived to fresh baked bread by Peter the property manager and a beautiful fire in the large sitting room that was beautifully painted with murals by Michael. It was like a dream or like we were in a movie.
This property was exactly as described and in the photos, and exceeded our expectations for how beautiful and peaceful it was.
As a group of ten friends we had every amenity on the doorstep in Bunclody and the house was very well equipped to meet sleeping and dining needs of this large group.
The house owners were very responsive and sent additional information about dinner options locally and at the house. Peter, the house manager was in touch before during and after our stay, and personally welcomed us to the house with a tour, freshly baked bread, milk, local eggs and tea/coffee and other lovely additional touches like personal bottle of water on each bed locker. Bed linens and towels were very clean, plenty of hot water and heating. This is an older house with antique furniture, and lots of charm, character and beautiful artwork. Grounds and privacy were exceptional and it was stunning to sit and watch the sunset from the patio.

Abbeydown surpassed our expectations. The home is located up a private country road making for a quiet peaceful setting with lovely views. We enjoyed daily walks down the road with our dog and took walks from there throughout the countryside. The grounds are beautiful with gorgeous birdsong and sheep grazing on the distant hills. The house is very comfortable to live in and lovingly decorated with Michael’s beautiful murals on the walls. Peter could not have been more helpful and delightful and we were greeted with eggs from local hens and fresh home baked bread. We took a tour at the nearby Huntington Castle with Peter as our guide and I highly recommend it. Altamont Gardens is also a must if you enjoy beautiful gardens. If you are looking for a restful, peaceful get-a-way, this is the place for you. Thank you Michael and Henrietta!
Michael’s place is fantastic. It has gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside and is comprised of two houses connected by a solarium. There are five bedrooms (three in the primary house and two in the smaller house) and plenty of bathrooms, making Michael’s place a great choice for a large family or group. The nearby town of Clonegall is a short drive or walkable in nice weather.
While we didn’t meet Michael, Peter, the house manager, greeted us on arrival with freshly baked bread and eggs from a local farm. Peter was easily contactable and provided us with all the information needed to enjoy our stay.
I would highly recommend Michael’s place to anyone looking for a large home with plenty of space for relaxing and entertaining.

The photos are exactly the same as what greets you. A beautiful home, a peaceful location- exactly what we needed this Christmas 2024. The house was warm and very comfortable with plenty of room for all 10 of us and big enough for our own space too. Everything you need is there and the added touch of homemade bread and welcoming bottles of wine just hit the spot. Would highly recommend .
We spent four nights at Abbeydown with extended family (8 adults, 2 kids, and 1 infant) for a November 2024 Thanksgiving in Ireland, and it was perfect. The kitchen was incredibly well-equipped, making cooking easy, and the rooms were comfortable. The house had plenty of space to relax, including a large upstairs family room with murals, perfect for games and gatherings. The three fireplaces, stocked with endless firewood, added a cozy touch, and the sunroom beautifully connected the old and new parts of the home.
The house is off a small local road with a long hidden driveway up a hill that can get muddy in the rain, but it’s manageable once you know where it is. The town is a 15-20 minute walk and has a small grocer, 2 pubs, and a Michelin-starred restaurant. We also did day trips to Waterford and Wexford, both just over an hour away.
Abbeydown had everything we needed for a relaxing, memorable stay. Highly recommend it for family gatherings or a peaceful retreat!

We had a wonderful week with family from all over. The house was perfect for us. We were nine people and we all fit very comfortably and had lots of room.
House is beautiful as are the grounds.
Peter the house manager was wonderful even baked us fresh delicious soda bread. Would highly recommend to a group looking for somewhere fairly centrally located and quite private.
The murals around this home are also very impressive.

Thank-you for a wonderful stay at Abbeydown. We were a group of 8 adults & 5 children for Christmas and the house couldn’t have been more perfect.
There was so much space to accommodate everyone spending time together and also lots of lovely break out areas to relax in!
The kitchen is perfect for catering a large number with all utensils, flatware & crockery you would need.
Beds were extremely comfortable with lovely duvets & linens.

We loved our stay here!
We was met by Peter who greeted us, showed us around and had also very kindly made us some bread and brought us some essentials like eggs, milk, water and prosecco of course! Really great guy and very helpful.
There was 10 of us staying including one toddler. We loved every aspect of the house, lots of wonderful spaces to either relax alone or to spend time together as a family. We enjoyed the grounds and gardens very much especially in the evening. As well as the drawing room for family games.
Everything was super clean and lots of products to use in the bathrooms. 10 of us managed to shower nicely as there is 4 bathrooms over the 2 houses.
The location was beautiful and we would highly recommend staying here for a wholesome family holiday.
